FAQs

Why do I need a life insurance agent to get life insurance?
When you buy life insurance, you may find it useful to enlist a life insurance agent or broker to help you. Agents work with life insurance companies to help potential customers navigate the process of buying a life insurance policy.

What’s the difference between an agent and a broker?
Life insurance brokers are similar to life insurance agents. Both brokers and agents serve as intermediaries between the insurance companies and customers. Both brokers and agents must be licensed to sell insurance. Although they both work with insurance companies to help shoppers find the right policy, agents are often more limited in the number of companies they work with while brokers aren’t beholden to any single insurer.  Insurance brokers help you shop for insurance coverage.

What’s the difference between an independent and captive agent or broker?
Captive agents work for one specific insurance company. Independent (non-captive) agents and brokers do not represent any single company.

Are You A Licensed Life Insurance Agent?
Yes, all agents or brokers, MUST be licensed in the state they sell in.
As your independent and licensed agent, I’ll work to get you the best rates from multiple carriers for the highest amount of coverage. I’m licensed in the following states:

  • Alabama

  • Florida

  • Georgia

  • Kentucky

  • Louisana

  • Michigan

  • Mississippi

  • Missouri

  • New York

  • North Carolina

  • Ohio

  • South Carolina

  • Texas

  • Virginia

  • West Virginia

How Much Life Insurance Should I Get?
You don’t want to be over insured and overpay for coverage you don’t need. You definitely don’t want to be underinsured and have your family at risk. The whole purpose is to make sure they’re protected. I’ll work with you to determine how much life insurance you need, and the rate that works best for you.

How Long Does It Take To Get Life Insurance?
The amount of time for life insurance to become active can vary. It is dependent of a variety of things, such as the “effective date” and underwriting. Underwriting can take anywhere from 3 to 5 business days. This is because we want to ensure that things listed on the application are accurate.

Are There Any Taxes With A Life Insurance Policy?
No, typically there are no taxes on insurance proceeds. Ask me during our consultation and I will be able to confirm if this is the case for you.

Will My Premium Change In The Future?
When enrolling in a whole or complete life insurance policy, your premium does not increase nor does you coverage amount decrease for the life of the policy.

What Type of Coverage Is Available and what are the benefits?
An individual policy is one in which you apply for coverage on your own. You, or a family member, will own the actual policy.

  • It's portable. If you take a new job at a different company, you don't have to worry about losing your life insurance protection.

  • Level premiums. Generally, individual policies can be structured to have level premiums for the duration of the policy.

  • Flexibility.  You might have more options available with an individual policy than you would with a group plan.
